Howard has a PhD in American Literature from the University of London, and has been a Leverhulme Fellow at the University of Sussex. He is the contributing editor of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road – The Original Scroll (Viking 2007) described by the New York Times as ‘the living version for our time.’ His new novel, The Painter’s Friend, is forthcoming from Picador.
