REFUNDS & PRODUCT-SPECIFIC TERMS

Without prejudice to your statutory rights, refunds are issued in accordance with the following policy (and, in the case of doubt or ambiguity, according to our judgement and sole discretion):

TUTORED COURSES

If a customer wishes to be refunded on a short tutored course (that is, any course less than 12 weeks in duration), they are entitled to a refund up to 14 days before the course starts, but note that an administration fee of £75 will be charged. After the 14-day cutoff, no refund is possible. To avoid loss, we strongly advise customers to ensure they are able to take the course on the dates advertised, and that they are comfortable undertaking this online. Should a customer wish to transfer their place to the next scheduled course, this is only possible if places remain, and a £75 administration fee will be charged. No changes will be possible once a course has started.

£100 Deposit

The £100 deposit can be applied to lump sum or monthly instalment payments. The £100 deposit is fully refundable if for any reason you are unable to take up your place (provided you haven’t completed the full payment, otherwise the normal refund terms apply).

To secure your place on the course, you will need to complete payment at least 30 days before the course starts. Please see the terms above relating to refunds for full course payments.

THE ULTIMATE START – ONE-DAY WRITING WORKSHOP

You may request a refund up to 7 days before the first scheduled session takes place. To request a refund, please email courses@jerichowriters.com. Once the 7 day window has transpired, no refund will be possible but we can offer a credit towards another one of our services.

MENTORING SERVICE

When a customer applies for our mentoring service, they are under no obligation to proceed to payment.

You may request a refund up to 14 days before the first scheduled mentoring session takes place. The refund will be issued, minus a £75 transaction fee. To cancel an order, send your request to courses@jerichowriters.com. Once the 14 day window has transpired, no refund will be possible.

Once you have scheduled sessions with your mentor, these are considered set appointments. If you want to reschedule a session, you must give your mentor at least 24 hours advance notice. Any missed sessions or cancelled sessions with less than 24 hours advance notice will be forfeited.

In the highly unlikely event that you are unhappy with your mentor or the feedback you are receiving, please contact Jericho Writers directly and we will do our best to resolve the situation. Any requests to transfer to a different mentor will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and it will not be possible to get a refund for any hours already used.

If a customer wishes to be transfer the funds for any remaining mentoring hours to another service, such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis and, in all cases, an administration fee of £75 will be charged.

To avoid loss, we strongly advise customers to ensure they are committed to the mentoring sessions and have sufficient time to dedicate to these.

We expect all out clients to behave in a professional manner, and we reserve the right to stop working with a client should they behave in an offensive manner to out staff. In this instance, no refund will be possible.

PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP

1. Membership Eligibility

You must be 18 years or older to become a Free or Premium Member. By registering, you confirm that all information provided is accurate, complete, and current. We reserve the right to terminate accounts that contain false or misleading information.

2. Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You agree not to share your account or allow others to access your membership. If you suspect unauthorized use, please contact us immediately.

3. Membership Access

Free Membership grants access to:

• Townhouse and all associated groups and forums
• Select open live online events
• Select downloads in the Vault
• Blog posts and articles

Premium Membership grants access to:

• Self-paced video courses
• All downloads in the Vault
• All live online events
• All masterclasses
• Access to AgentMatch
• Exclusive offers and discounts
• Townhouse and all associated groups and forums
• Blog posts and articles

Access is subject to your membership being active and in good standing.

4. Payments, Renewals & Cancellations

Premium Membership will automatically renew with the following terms, depending on your selection:

• Annual pay upfront members will be charged £150.00 (or the international equivalent at the time of payment) once per year. This subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled. You can cancel at any time via My Account.
• Annual pay monthly members will be charged £15 (or the international equivalent at the time of payment) once per month. Each term is for 12 months, meaning by choosing this subscription you commit to fulfilling all 12 installments of this annual product. This subscription will automatically renew unless cancelled. You can cancel at the end of each 12 month period via My Account.
• Flex members will be charged £30 (or the international equivalent at the time of payment) once per month. There is no minimum commitment to this subscription and it can be cancelled at any time via My Account.

In all instances, you will be notified before your renewal via email. Please ensure you have info@jerichowriters.com listed as a safe sender in order to ensure you receive these emails.

5. Refunds

Refunds are only available if a request via email to info@jerichowriters.com is made within the 14-day money-back guarantee period.

Requests for partial refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but there is no automatic right to any refund. If you have joined the Premium Membership plan through Black Friday, please see those terms and conditions, here.

The content of the membership package may change at any time and there is no guarantee that a service or piece of content that is currently available will remain available at any future date. When live events (such as webinars) are scheduled, we will seek to run that event as planned but may need to cancel, alter the presenter, or otherwise revise the content.

Advice given as part of the membership service is given in good faith, but may not take account of your exact needs or circumstances. We accept no liability whatsoever for harms you may suffer by relying upon our advice. In the end, you must use your judgement to decide what is best for you.

6. One-off self-paced video course purchases

If a customer has purchased a Premium Member Course (i.e. the self-paced video courses listed here) with a one-off fee and wishes to be refunded, they are entitled to a refund up to 14 days after purchase and only if the customer has not yet taken the course. After the 14-day cutoff, or if the customer has watched part or all of the course, no refund is possible. To avoid loss, we strongly advise customers to ensure they are able to take the course within a year of purchase, and that they are comfortable undertaking this online.

All one-off purchases of Premium Member Courses grant access to the customer for 1 year from the date of purchase. Should you wish to take the course after this date, you will either need to re-purchase the course or join us as a Premium Member.

If you have purchased a Premium Member Course and wish to swap to Premium Membership, you may contact info@jerichowriters.com to request an upgrade. The cost of the Premium Member Course will be discounted from your first year of Premium Membership as long as (A) you have upgraded to an Annual Pay Upfront or Annual Pay Monthly membership and (B) the request has been made within 1 year of purchasing the Premium Member Course.

7. Community Guidelines

By using our forums and groups, you agree to:

• Be respectful and constructive.
• Not post self-promotional content, spam, or advertisements.
• Not share offensive, harmful, or illegal content.
• Respect the privacy and confidentiality of other members.

Violating these rules may result in suspension or termination of your account.

8. Beta Reader and Critique Use

Our community includes spaces for finding critique partners and beta readers. You agree not to reproduce, distribute, or misuse any writing shared by other members. Give feedback respectfully and only share your own original work.

9. Creating Groups

Members may create their own groups by request. Group creators must agree to:

• Moderate their group responsibly.
• Follow and enforce community guidelines.
• Not use the Jericho Writers logo or brand in a way that implies official endorsement.
• Keep activity aligned with the site’s values and purpose.

10. Intellectual Property

All course content, resources, and materials provided by us are the intellectual property of Jericho Writers and are for personal use only. You may not reproduce, distribute, or publicly share our content without permission.

11. Third-Party Tools

Our site may integrate tools and services from third parties, including, but not limited to:

• Keap
• Zoho
• LifterLMS
• Buddyboss
• Zoom
• WebinarJam

We are not responsible for their terms or data handling. You agree to review and abide by those third-party policies where applicable.

12. Changes to terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions at any time. You will be notified of significant changes. Continued use of the site after changes are made constitutes your acceptance.

13. Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your membership without refund if you breach these Terms, misuse our services, or behave in a way that negatively impacts the community.

EDITORIAL ASSESSMENTS

Editorial assessments can typically not be refunded at any point, because we will start work as soon as payment has been made. Should a refund be agreed, we reserve the right to retain a £50 admin fee. Clients need to be aware that editorial advice is just that – advice – and you may well disagree with some or all of the advice given. Our primary commitment here is that any editorial advice given is given in good faith by a suitably experienced and committed editor. Naturally, we can make no guarantee that the editorial suggestions offered will improve the manuscript and we certainly cannot promise that, if you follow our suggestions, your book will necessarily be of publishable quality. Other things to consider:

• We reserve the right to return your work and payment to you should we fail to find a suitable editor. In these exceptional circumstances, a full refund will be issued.
• We aim to provide an assessment within 4-6 weeks but cannot guarantee this
• Your work will always be treated in the strictest confidence.
• The copyright of your work is automatically yours and remains yours at all times.
• Recommendations to agents will only be made after an assessment if both the editor and the writers support team deem your work to be potentially marketable.
• In the event that we wish to forward your work to agent or publishers on your behalf, we will never do so without seeking your permission first.
• Whilst we realise that receiving feedback is a sensitive process, we expect authors to behave in a professional manner and reserve the right to stop corresponding with you should your manner be offensive to our staff.
• Whilst we accept that writing deals with subject matter of all kinds, our editors reserve the right not to work on projects that they deem it to be excessively and unacceptably offensive

The term “editorial assessments” includes manuscript assessment, developmental editing, opening section assessments, agent submission pack reviews, or any other service with editorial feedback at its heart.

COPYEDITING SERVICES

Coyediting assignments (including line-editing and proof-reading) are also non-refundable, as we start work immediately. While we do promise to use experienced copyeditors who will work diligently and in good faith on your manuscript, please note that one single round of copyediting is not likely to remove all errors from a manuscript. Books produced by large publishers will typically be professionally copyedited, and proofread, and checked through at least once and probably twice by both editor and author. Even so errors creep through. So while our copyediting is excellent, clients need to have a realistic view of what will be accomplished. Final responsibility for the manuscript, including outright errors as well as faults of style etc, remain always with the author. It is your duty to notify us of any specific instructions you would like the editor to follow.

ONE-DAY EVENTS

Refunds for one-day events, evening masterclasses and the like, will be issued, subject to a £50 admin charge, up to 14 days before the event. After that time, no refunds can be issued as we will have confirmed numbers to the venue and may not be able to resell your ticket.

AGENT ONE-TO-ONE SESSIONS

The following terms relate to our Agent One-to-One service, more details can be found here.

OUTCOMES

Your selected agent will:

• Provide support that effectively and accurately fills the time solicited by the customer in their 15-minute session. Sessions will be provided over the phone unless agreed otherwise by the agent, customer and Jericho Writers.
• Give honest and constructive advice, informed by their own experience as an agent, knowledge of writing/editing, and navigating the publishing industry.
• Take a professional approach when addressing customers’ needs and ensure they respond to customer questions in a helpful and constructive manner.
• Provide the customer with feedback on their query letter, synopsis, and opening pages.

While we have close connections with our participating agents, we take no responsibility for the feedback provided during your one-to-one session.  They represent their own interests and that of their agency.

Customers need to be aware that advice is just that – advice – and you may disagree with some or all of the advice given.

Our primary commitment here is that any advice given is given in good faith by a suitably committed agent.

We can make no guarantee that the suggestions offered by one agent will necessarily lead to a publishing deal with another agent. Nor do we make any promises that your one-to-one session will lead directly to publication.

OWNERSHIP 

All feedback generated by the agent shall belong to the agent. However, the agent shall respect the customer’s entitlement to privacy.

All brand and other marketing materials (including written materials, designs, images, names and so forth) shall belong to us. Any material provided as part of our existing platform (e.g., Jericho Writers membership materials) shall remain the property of Jericho Writers.

All manuscripts and other material written by customers belong to them. Even if parts of that work have already been published (for example) as part of a peer-to-peer feedback on a platform provided by Jericho Writers, we shall have no claim over that work. Likewise, if a piece of student’s work embeds or otherwise makes use of an agent’s feedback commentary, the resultant piece of work shall belong to the student alone.

An agent may request to see a full manuscript from the customer, it is at the customer’s discretion if they choose to share the full work with the agent.

AGENT AVAILABILITY 

After purchasing their one-to-one product, the customer may book their session with an available agent at their discretion.

Jericho Writers cannot guarantee any preferred agents’ availability; however, we will ensure availability is regularly updated on the agent one-to-one booking system.

There is no time limit to when a purchased one-to-one session must be used. However, restrictions will be applied to refunds on unused sessions (see below for details).

Sessions are operated on a first-come-first-served basis; we do not keep a waiting list. All times listed on the booking page are given in 24-hour UK time (GMT/BST, UTC+0/+1).

If the customer would like to change agents, requests must be made two weeks in advance of their booked session by emailing 121@jerichowriters.com.

CALL RECORDINGS 

Agent One-to-One calls may be recorded for quality assurance and training purposes.  Audio recordings will be handled by the responsible Jericho Writers officer and securely retained for up to 30 days, after which point they will be automatically deleted. They will not be shared or made accessible to members of the public. You can read more about the data we collect and how we handle it in our Privacy Policy. 

REFUNDS 

Booked sessions can be refunded no later than two weeks before the agreed session date. After this time, a refund will not be available.

If requested by the customer, we will attempt to reschedule the session, however this is dependent on agent availability. If we are within the two-week period and we are not able to rearrange the session, a refund will not be processed.

In the event the agent or Jericho Writers is forced to cancel a session, we will attempt to reschedule the session at a time convenient to both the agent and the customer. If that is not possible, then we will provide the customer with an alternative agent session or a refund.

Refunds on unused sessions will be available within 30 days of purchase. After this time but within one year of purchase, the customer may request that the value of an unused session be converted to Jericho Writers store credit, which will be useable within one year of credit being issued. Other restrictions may apply to the use of store credit. No refunds or equivalent store credit will be available for unused sessions after one year of purchase. This refund policy will only apply to Agent One-to-One Sessions purchased from 5 June 2025 onwards; unused sessions purchased prior to this date will remain under the original terms of purchase.

COMPLAINTS PROCESS 

If the customer believes their Agent One-to-One session did not meet the requirements laid out in the Terms & Conditions (above) they have one week to file a complaint from the date of their session. Otherwise, we will assume that all sessions ran as scheduled and as expected. Complaints can be emailed to 121@jerichowriters.com.

Any complaints submitted after the one-week period will not be considered. 

Each complaint will be investigated on a case-by-case basis. Jericho Writers may request information from all parties and reserve the right to share feedback/complaint information with individuals involved.  

All decisions are final and are not subject to appeal.

FESTIVAL OF WRITING TERMS & CONDITIONS

BOOKINGS

Please ensure you are able to attend before booking this event. Bookings are offered on a first come, first served basis.

Unpaid bookings may be treated as a cancellation. If we do not receive your payment within 2 working days of your booking, we will cancel your ticket and one-to-ones.

If you need to cancel your booking, please notify us immediately.

Refunds are made on the following basis:

• Up to 12 weeks prior to the event – full refund, but subject to a £75 admin fee
• Less than 12 weeks prior to the event – no refund possible.

We will always endeavor to treat emergency cancellations with consideration and will review individual cases.

PAYMENT PLANS

The Pay In 4 and Pay In 2 payment plans are only available until 25 May 2025. If your final payment is not complete by 16:00 BST on 27 June 2025, your ticket will be deemed invalid and you will not be admitted to the festival. Refund Ts & Cs still apply:

• Up to 12 weeks prior to the event – should your final payment not be completed, you will be eligible to request a full refund of your first payment subject to a £75 admin fee
• Less than 12 weeks prior to the event – no refund possible.

WORKSHOP PASSES

Workshop Passes are last-minute tickets available that provide access to workshops and panels only. They do not include:

• Agent or Book Doctor one-to-one sessions
• The gala dinner
• Entry to the Friday Night Live competition

Due to the last minute nature of these tickets, some workshops may already be at full capacity. Please contact us to check availability prior to booking your ticket, as these tickets are non-refundable.

Please note that All Access Passes (full priced tickets) are non-transferable and non-refundable less than 12 weeks prior to the event. This includes requests to downgrade to a Workshop Pass. As the All Access Pass includes premium features such as one-to-one sessions, the gala dinner, and Friday Night Live, all of which have already been paid for, no partial refunds will be issued for unused portions of the ticket.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We cannot reimburse travel costs or other losses incurred in the event of cancellation by us or you. You are advised to take out travel insurance to cover potential loss arising from cancellation or any other eventuality affecting your booking, that includes coverage for Festival ticket costs and travel costs. You should ensure that any policy you take meets your needs

Our liability to you in all cases is limited to the Festival Ticket you have booked.

CHANGES

As we plan The Festival of Writing programme in advance, changes may occur to some courses, and occasionally book doctors, workshop leaders, agents and publishers are unavailable. We always endeavour to replace them with someone of similar expertise, but may not always succeed in so doing. Where one-to-one sessions are cancelled or changed, we will make best efforts to notify you promptly and make alternative arrangements.

CONDUCT

Jericho Writers is committed to providing a supportive and welcoming environment that depends on tolerance and understanding of all participants.

We ask that delegates treat each other, agents, publishers, book doctors, workshop leaders, and Jericho Writers representatives with consideration and respect.

We reserve the right to refuse entry or exclude from The Festival of Writing any delegate who behaves in a disruptive, disrespectful manner, or engages in discriminatory or illegal conduct. No refund will be given if exclusion is made for these reasons. Our judgement on the matter will be final.

PETS

Please note that, with the exception of guide dogs, pets are not permitted anywhere at The Festival of Writing.

YOUR AGE

The Festival of Writing is only open to people aged 18 and over.

PRIVACY

Please see our Privacy policy for details – but in essence, we’ll store and process your details as needed to manage your participation in the event. We will never sell or otherwise give away those details to a third-party.

LOSS

Jericho Writers cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage or expense sustained by delegates as a result of an event or circumstance whether arising from natural cause, human agency, or beyond its control otherwise.

ACCESS

If you have specific needs around access and participation, it is important that you advise Jericho Writers at the time of booking so that we can ensure adequate and appropriate help. If you require a carer to accompany you, please contact the office and we can discuss how we can help.

PARKING

There is on-street parking available outside Leonardo Royal London Tower Bridge (parking meter charges apply). The nearest car park is the Minories car park located on 1 Shorter street, which has 401 car park spaces. PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING

By agreeing to the terms and conditions, you are agreeing to be photographed or filmed. Delegates will be asked to wear a red lanyard if they do not wish to appear in photos or film and we will make every effort possible to accommodate this. However, we cannot guarantee that anyone will not be featured. We reserve the right to film part of or all of any workshops and make these available to our website users, or to use for promotional purposes. Photographs may be taken for promotional purposes.

FEEDBACK

Jericho Writers are committed to providing a wonderful experience for all attendees of The Festival of Writing. After the event, we will give you the opportunity to provide feedback on an evaluation form/survey/questionnaire.

It is always lovely to hear what we did right, but if you feel that we did not meet your expectations we want to know that as well.

Often things can be resolved quickly and simply. So, do find one of the team during the event and let us know about your problem. We will want to help and sort it out. If you feel this is not sufficient, you may wish to make a formal complaint. Note that all complaints should be made in writing, within ten working days of the close of The Festival of Writing

ONE-TO-ONES

All work for one-to-ones must be submitted in the requested format and by the deadline date. Once you have submitted your work, we are not able to accept further versions. Work received after the deadline may not be reviewed by your Agent or Book Doctor prior to the event. It is advisable to bring several copies of your work along with you.

If you miss your slot we will not be able to rearrange for you.

The timing of your one-to-one is strictly enforced. Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time. If you arrive late you will not be allowed to over-run.

All one-to-one sessions run concurrently with the programme, so it is perfectly acceptable to leave a workshop or seminar to attend your one-to-one session, and re-join the workshop later.

Do note that the agents and book doctors are providing advice: constructive feedback on your work to help you develop and refine it. But advice is simply that. You may or may not like or agree with those comments. Other agents or book doctors might or might not provide similar feedback and, in the end, it is your judgement about what comments to rely on as you revise your draft text. Please also note that Jericho Writers does not employ the agents or book doctors directly and, while we make great efforts to invite only those people who we think will contribute professionally and usefully to the event, we cannot make any guarantees as to the quality or professionalism of their services.

If you do feel downhearted or upset by anything, please do talk to a member of the team. Most of us are writers ourselves, and we’ll help any way we can.

ONLINE EVENTS

We schedule webinars in good faith, but cannot guarantee that a given speaker will be able to attend. Where possible we will find suitable replacements, but in some cases we may be obliged to cancel altogether.

We reserve the right to remove you from the chat during our webinars if your behavior is detrimental to the event, abusive to our staff or speakers or causes offence.

We make great efforts to ensure that our events proceed without technical glitches or interruptions in communications, but we cannot guarantee this. Most communications problems lie at the user’s end; we recommend connecting your device directly to the router via ethernet cable, as this solves most problems.

We reserve the right not to upload a webinar for replay if the speaker withdraws consent, or for any other reason.

Speakers may refer to third-party resources or websites, but of course such references do not imply endorsement by Jericho Writers. All use of such resources is at the user’s risk and reliant, always, on the user’s own judgement of their own individual requirements.

We use webinar technology with an embedded chat function, but we cannot guarantee that this function will work, either in general or for you specifically. We are not able to answer your technical questions about the operation of this software (which ought to be intuitive and easy).

We cannot guarantee that any questions you may pose on the chat will be answered, or that your work will be chosen for live critique.

All statements made at our events are advisory only, and intended as general guidance. We do not know the details of your circumstances and accept no liability whatsoever in the event that such advice is not beneficial to you.

INTRODUCTION

By applying for this bursary you are agreeing to these terms and conditions. The bursary is being offered by Jericho Writers. Please see below for eligibility criteria. 

THE JERICHO WRITERS BURSARY 

Jericho Writers are happy to offer two fully funded weekend tickets for the London Festival of Writing 2025.  

This bursary is open to low-income writers. 

Each bursary full-weekend London Festival of Writing ticket covers: 

• A full weekend pass; 
• x2 agent or book doctor one-to-one; 
• A range of workshops across the weekend; 
• Entry to the Friday Night Live (but on a Saturday) competition; 
• Saturday Gala dinner; 
• And a buffet lunch provided both Saturday and Sunday. 

Please note, the bursary does not cover accommodation or travel expenses to and from the London Festival of Writing 2025. Nor will expenses be covered by Jericho Writers.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE JERICHO WRITERS BURSARY

DECISIONS 

Successful applicants will be contacted on 15 May 2025. Jericho Writers will make two attempts to contact successful applicants via email with information of how to claim their bursary. 

Jericho Writers’ decision on any aspect of the bursary is final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into about it. 

If a successful applicant does not respond to the emails informing them how to claim their bursary within 5 working days of the second email, they forfeit their right to the bursary, and Jericho Writers reserves the right to transfer the session to another eligible bursary applicant. 

DATA PROTECTION AND PUBLICITY 

You agree that any personal information that you provide when entering the bursary will be used by Jericho Writers for the purposes of administering the bursary and for the other purposes as specified in our Privacy Policy.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY

• To apply for the sponsored entry, you must:
• Be able to submit your elevator pitch by the Pitch Jericho competition closing date on Monday 29 April 2024. 
• Whilst you don’t need to have finished your book to apply for this opportunity. The competition will see fifteen shortlisted writers read their pitch in front of literary agents. Ideally, if an agent requested the writer’s submission (or full manuscript), the writer would have a manuscript that is ready to submit.
• Not be represented by a literary agent or have been previously traditionally published. We want to help those who haven’t already taken a step on the publishing ladder.
• Not be a Jericho Writers Premium Member. All our Premium Members are entitled to one free Pitch Jericho entry as part of their membership.

All entrants may request information on the winning participant by emailing events@jerichowriters.com.

The winner’s full name and title of entry of will be announced on Jericho Writers’ website, to their email database and via social media channels, along with the winner’s image and any recordings of the finale event.

Jericho Writers accepts no liability for any damage, loss, injury, or disappointment suffered by any entrants as a result of participating in the competition or being selected for a prize.
