Bursary Opportunities
This year we were pleased to offer five bursary opportunities for the London Festival of Writing 2024.
Information on each bursary and the criteria to apply can be found below. Writers were welcome to apply for more than one bursary, as long as they met the criteria.
Please note, travel and accommodation expenses are not covered in the bursaries.
The Dabble Bursary
Festival sponsor and book writing software Dabble kindly donated 2 full weekend tickets. This bursary was open to low-income writers only.

What’s included?
As part of your full weekend festival ticket, the bursary recipient had the option to attend 7 workshops across Saturday and Sunday, two agent or book doctor one-to-ones of their choice (dependent on availability), access to Friday Night Live (but on a Saturday), a gala dinner, and buffet lunch provided on both dates. Accommodation and travel expenses to and from the festival were not covered by the bursary.

The Marve Michael Anson Bursary
Author and festival speaker, Marve Michael Anson kindly offered to cover the cost of one Sunday Festival Ticket for the 2024 festival plus one year’s Jericho Writers Premium Membership. This bursary was open to Black writers only.
What’s included?
As part of the festival ticket, the chosen writer had the option to attend 4 workshops, one agent or book doctor one-to-one of their choice (dependent on availability), and buffet lunch provided. Please note that accommodation and travel expenses to and from the festival were not covered by the bursary.
Their one year of Premium Membership includes access to a range of creative writing and publishing video courses, masterclasses, query letter review service, and online events. Find out more about the Premium Membership here.

The Jericho Writers Bursary
We know how much the Festival can help writers, but we also know that for some this isn’t affordable. So we were happy to offer two fully-funded weekend tickets for the London Festival of Writing 2024. This bursary was open to low-income writers.

questions
What is the deadline for bursary applications?
The deadline for the Dabble Bursary is 23.59 GMT on 31 May 2024. The deadline for both the Marve Michael Anson and the Jericho Writers bursaries is 23.59 GMT on 1 May 2024. Bursary applications submitted after this time will not be accepted.
Am I eligible for either of the bursaries?
Both of the London Festival of Writing bursaries are subject to an eligibility criteria. The Marve Michael Anson Bursary is open to Black writers only. While applicants to The Jericho Writers Bursary should be from a low-income household.
Can I apply for both bursaries?
If you meet the eligibility criteria for both bursaries, then yes, you are welcome to apply for each. However, please note, that you cannot win both bursaries. To support as many under-represented authors as possible, the bursaries will go to three writers.
Do I need to be a Premium Member to apply for the bursary?
No, you do not need to be a Premium Member to apply for either bursary. All writers are welcome to apply, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria set out above.
I’ve already applied for another bursary, can I still apply to one (or both) of the Festival of London bursaries?
Yes, you are welcome to apply for one or both of the London Festival of Writing Bursaries. The only requirement is that you meet the eligibility criteria.
How will I find out if my bursary application has been successful?
Successful bursary applicants will receive notification via email on 15 May 2024. This email will confirm the successful bursary and what it covers, and details on how to claim the bursary. If you do not receive any communication from us within 5 working days of the 15 May, then unfortunately your application has been unsuccessful. However, we encourage you to check out our Bursaries page for future opportunities.
Is accommodation provided as part of the bursary?
No. Accommodation is not provided as part of the bursary.
Will my travel expenses be covered by the bursary?
No. Travel expenses are not covered as part of the bursary.
Are the bursaries only available to UK writers?
No, anyone can apply for a bursary. However, accommodation and travel expenses are not covered by the bursary and so will need to be provided for by the individual. We ask that if you apply for the bursary, then you are free and able to attend the Festival of Writing.
When is the London Festival of Writing 2024?
The Festival will be held over Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June 2024.
Will I be eligible to enter Friday Night Live (but on a Saturday)?
To enter Friday Night Live, you will need to hold either a Saturday or Full Weekend Ticket. Therefore, applicants to The Marve Michael Anson Bursary will not be eligible to enter the competition as this bursary provides a Sunday ticket. However, if you meet the requirements of The Jericho Writers Bursary then you are welcome to apply for both opportunities.
Will I receive a Festival of Writing agent one-to-one session with either of the bursaries?
The bursary recipient of the Marve Michael Anson Bursary will receive 1 x one-to-one. The bursary recipients of the Jericho Writers Bursary will 2 x one-to-ones each.
How will I book my agent one-to-one session/s?
If your application is successful, you will receive a coupon code to claim your Festival ticket. Once claimed, a booking link will be sent to you via email where you can access the booking form and confirm your agent one-to-one session.
How will I know what workshops sessions I can book for the Festival of Writing?
If your application is successful, you will receive a coupon code to claim your Festival ticket. Once claimed, a booking link will be sent to you via email where you can access the booking form and select your Festival workshops.

I applied for The Marve Michael Anson Bursary, if successful, when will my Premium Membership begin?
If your bursary application is successful, you will be sent joining instructions via email. Once you have followed the instructions and signed up as a Premium Member, your membership will begin from that date.
I applied for The Marve Michael Anson Bursary, if successful, when will my Premium Membership end? Will I be charged for it to renew?
If your bursary application is successful, your membership will last for one year from the date your Premium Membership was set up. You will not be charged for a renewal.
