The manuscript assessment was‎ an extremely important step for me. It was enlightening and instructive.

Louise offered thought-provoking questions and ideas on the whole manuscript, as well as detailed line editing on certain parts. The assessment she provided was supportive and encouraging. She really took me seriously as a writer.

Caroline [Hulse]’s manuscript assessment pushed me to revisit my work and to make it as strong as it could be. She was honest and forthright about the strengths and weaknesses and I’m so glad I took another few months to improve my novel before submitting to agents.

Lesley’s comments and observations were extremely helpful and constructive. Her suggestions about dialogue, pace, story arc, and primary characters has made a big difference to how I will approach the revisions that I agree are necessary. Lesley was very positive about the quality of my writing which was most encouraging. I have found the whole experience positive and worthwhile. I did take a deep breath to submit my novel but I am very glad I did. And Lesley was definitely the right Editor for me.

I chose Dexter for a second time because of the excellent assessment he had done previously. I’d requested that assessment too early on really but in fact his input set me on the right track and saved me a lot of time and effort. This second time he confirmed that I was nearly submission ready and took my attention to the tweaks that needed doing to get there.

I’d like to take the opportunity to tell you how impressed I am with the editorial service. The feedback has, as advertised, been highly actionable. Mary Torjussen (my editor) has done an excellent job. She’s provided detailed and relevant feedback both at a structural level and on a chapter by chapter basis. She’s also been very responsive in answering my questions.

Russel [McLean] sent a comprehensive report back very quickly. Prior to this I had been editing over and over again until I had become blind to my own story. The feedback from Russel highlights the extent of work required and this does feel a bit daunting, but I am determined not to give up. I feel incredibly encouraged by his comments and that he liked my ideas! Strange as it may sound, I was very excited that someone would actually read my story and even more excited that Russel understood what was going on and that it did actually make sense! My inexperience shone right through the report but every single comment made has been well received. The report is honest, thorough and in-depth and I really appreciate the examples provided, covering how to re-write sentences to make them cleaner and leaner, the suggestion to incorporate back story into conversation rather than written as separate chapters, which also highlighted where I had diminished some of the tension. And which characters to focus on. I also appreciated the list of like genre authors to refer to. I am encouraged to keep going and am currently compiling some questions for Russel. I have also started deconstructing the story in order to reconstruct it based on the advice offered. Overall, Russel did an amazing job. He provided invaluable advice on how to further develop my ideas and writing skills. It is incredibly apparent that he put a lot of time and effort into tailoring feedback specific to my manuscript and his reflection on where I am in my own journey as a writer. I am encouraged to keep on going!

Mary [Torjussen] certainly noticed quite a few plot holes that needed clarifying and characters that need more explaining. I got to the point with this manuscript that I couldn’t see the wood for the trees. So I really found Mary’s comments helpful.

My second novel, One Life A Thousand Souls, will be published in early October. This follows the publication of my first novel, The Steam Catcher, last year. On both occasions I used your manuscript assessment service to improve the book and both times Lesley McDowell offered me brilliant, honest and succinct advice.

In general I have found Jericho Writers very professional and helpful. Having used other editors from well-known companies, I have had the same professionalism for less cost from Jericho Writers, which is a real incentive to turn to Jericho Writers every time.

Liz [Monument] did a remarkably thorough assessment of this manuscript, a rewrite of the previous manuscript that she assessed. Through her comments I was able to see how far this manuscript had come, as well as the remaining work to be done to take it from good to great. Always insightful, her comments addressed POV, which changed from the first manuscript, characters, and pacing, as well as a few plot bumps that need straightening. I’m very grateful to Liz for finding the time to do this assessment. Edits can be a painful process, but everything was explained to me carefully and compassionately. I appreciate that the rationale for each comment was included. I could not have been better supported by this assessment, or more pleased.

I like the bank of excellent editors you have and the way you individually present them so that clients can choose who they feel may be most appropriate. I have used the service on several occasions and have been able to receive input from different editors, each time knowing the format of what to expect.

The pack review was very thorough. It included aspects of my 10,000-word opening, synopsis, and query letter that I hadn’t thought of. I’ve still got much to learn, and this helps me. Kesia [Lupo] brought together the positive and negative aspects of my work. She is polite and replied quickly to my message. Whenever I have used Jericho services, there has always been an honest response, but carefully worded not to offend. The services have all been encouraging.
