Stand out from the slushpile

Jericho Writers was founded by writers, for writers. Four of us are published by the Big 5, while others are deep in the writing process.

We carefully select the editors and agents we work with— we choose the kind of people we’d want to guide us in our own writing. It’s this approach that has helped authors move forward with confidence, launch their careers, sign with literary agents and become Sunday Times bestsellers.

Querying literary agents or publishers can quickly become demoralising when you’re not getting the feedback you need to get that much-wanted ‘YES!’. You might have a great query letter but a terrible synopsis. Or, a brilliant opening chapter, but a terrible query letter. Without knowing exactly where you’re going wrong, it’s hard to move forward. Our Agent Submission Pack Review offers expert feedback on every aspect of your submission — query letter, synopsis, and opening chapters. Ideal for first-time queriers or those still pursuing the coveted ‘yes.’

Your agent submission pack review will include:

Feedback on your query letter

Find out what’s working in your query letter, what’s not and, most importantly, how to fix it.

Advice on your synopsis

Does your synopsis show your book in the best possible light? You’ll find out and get advice on how to improve it.

Actionable feedback on 10,000 words

Hooking an agent’s attention in your opening pages is key to standing out in the slushpile. You’ll find out if your opening 10k words are working hard enough for you and if not, how you can make sure they do.

Discussion with your editor

After receiving your report, you’ll have the opportunity for a short email exchange with your editor to clarify anything you’re unsure of before you begin polishing your work.

Get personalised support from a professional book editor

We’ve worked hard over 20 years to hand-pick our team of expert editors. Once you buy an Agent Submission Pack Review, our Writer Support Team will match you with the editor that best fits your work. Our book editors specialise in trade fiction and non-fiction texts. They include traditionally published authors as well as publishing professionals such as literary agents and Big 5 publishers. Don’t take just our word for it…

We’ve been helping writers achieve their goals for over 20 years. Here’s what some of them had to say about our Editorial Services:

Previous

Thank you so much for thorough feedback, kind words and encouragement. It means a lot. I found your report very clear and it sparked many ideas

Aman K

Editorial client

I remain impressed by both the quality and the quantity of Liz’s work. Apart from the overall comments, she goes into such great detail, character by character, chapter by chapter, missing nothing.

Carmella A

Editorial client

I was also blown away with your encouragement and thoughtfulness. You have given me excellent advice on how to focus on not only the query and synopsis, but also the plot. I encourage other writers to use your service.

Milo P

Agent Submission Pack Review client

Thank you for your perceptive and incisive report. I’ve been desperate for help like this and so much wish that I had found Jericho Writers a few years ago.

Frequently asked
questions

1

Who will be giving the feedback?

An editor who best suits your editorial content. We match manuscripts based on 15 years of experience working with our editors. We consider editor experience, their genres of interest, and whether they themselves feel they are the right fit for your work. As all our editors are freelance, this depends on availability.

2

Can I contact the editor directly?

No, but their in-depth report will contain actionable advice for you to progress with your manuscript.

3

How long does it take?

The turnaround is usually three to four weeks.

4

What genres do you accept?

All trade fiction and non-fiction. We are not suited to edit academic texts.

5

Do I need to be based in the UK for this service?

Not at all, our editorial services are delivered online and are suitable for writers from all around the world.

6

Can you help me find an agent?

Yes, you can log onto Jericho Writers’ AgentMatch, our database of over 1,000 UK and US literary agents.

7

How do I submit my submission pack for review?

To submit your agent submission pack for our professional editing service:
1) Select ‘buy now’ in the box above.
2) Once you’ve made your payment, you’ll be sent an email with a link to upload your manuscript.

8

How long will it take to match my manuscript with an editor?

We aim to match you with the right editor within 2-4 days. We’ll get back to you as soon as the choice has been confirmed.

9

Can I choose my editor?

If you have a particular editor in mind, we will of course do our best to match you with them. We cannot guarantee this, however, as all of our editors are freelance and there are times when they are unavailable due to demand and/or other commitments. Once you have placed your order, you’re welcome to send a shortlist of 4-5 editors from our website (and we’ll do our best to place you with your preferred editors).

10

How should I format my submission pack?

Please use an easy-to-read font like Times New Roman, 12pt. Don’t forget to also number your pages and use double spacing. These should be submitted as three separate documents (cover letter, synopsis, and the first 10,000 words of your manuscript).
