White Lies was shortlisted for the Dazed & Confused Most Promising Writer award and IMPAC longlisted. Dexter was also shortlisted for the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize 2006 for his translation of The Fishing Box (by Maurice Genevoix, co-translated with Laure Claesen).
He has won Authors Foundation Awards for non-fiction and Arts Council Bursaries for fiction. His latest book, Love Madness Fishing, is a childhood memoir published by Little Toller Books in 2016 and was longlisted for the Wainwright Prize.
He is one of the founding writers on the cult website Caught By The River, contributing chapters to both their books (Caught By The River -Words on Water, Cassell 2009 & On Nature, Harper Collins 2011). He is now considered to be one of our most original British nature writers and has been commissioned to contribute a chapter to a new anthology, Ground Work, Writings on People and Places, edited by Tim Dee, to be published by Penguin/Cape in 2018. Dexter lives in a yurt in Normandy.
