Festival overview

The Festival of Writing changes the lives of writers every year

Now back for its twelfth year, the 2018 Festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before. With a three-day line-up of literary agents, editors, publishers and bestselling authors – attendees often leave with ideas on how to take their writing forward, enthusiasm to put pen-to-paper and even a literary agent.

Below is an overview on what to expect at the Festival of Writing.

Friday

Full festival ticket holders have the option of kicking things off with a mini-course. These specially-designed sessions are hosted by our expert editors and focus on one particular aspect of writing. Which one will you choose?

Those who opt to stay at the University venue will be given a key to their room to check in and make themselves comfortable.

Come the evening, things really heat up. Every year, writers joining our Friday Night Live come away with offers of representation, including now bestsellers such as Felicia Yap and Joanna Cannon.

Saturday

Whether you are joining us for the full weekend, or just for the day, Saturday marks the first full day of expert workshops after the keynote speech.

Create your perfect conference by choosing the workshops that suit your writing. Between your inclusive drinks and lunch, we’ll run four sessions. In each session, you’ll be able to choose from up to six possible workshops to attend – from how to perfect your plot, to how to write for children – and everything in-between.

See the full list of workshops.

Also running throughout the weekend are dedicated one-to-one slots with literary agents and book doctors. Full Festival Weekend ticket holders will get two one-to-one slots, free of charge.

Come the evening, it’s time to don your suits and dresses for the Saturday Gala Dinner. Mingle with literary agents over a three-course dinner, wine and soft drinks, and get to know your fellow writers. For many, this is the highlight of the conference. And if you’re coming alone – don’t worry. You’ll leave with friends for life.

Testimonials

It was wonderful to connect with other writers, and everyone was so encouraging and friendly. I will definitely attend another, I learned so much that will help me! Thank you so much.

This was my first festival and I thought it was absolutely brilliant. An absolutely invaluable learning opportunity; both in terms of craft and about the industry as a whole.
