Writer and journalist Marianne Eloise was born obsessive. What that means changes day to day, depending on what her brain latches onto: fixations with certain topics, intrusive violent thoughts, looping phrases. Some obsessions have lasted a lifetime, while others will be intense but only last a week or two.

Obsessive, Intrusive, Magical Thinking is a culmination of a life spend obsessing, offering a glimpse into Marianne’s brain, but also an insight into the lives of others like her. From death to Medusa, to Disneyland to fire, to LA to her dog, the essays explore the intersection of neurodivergence, fixation and disorder, telling the story of one life underpinned and ultimately made whole by obsession.

What Megan says about editing

I am keen to help authors in both the beginning, middle and end stages of their work. As a literary agent, I am well placed to dive into agent submission packs and offer a close look at opening pages to get a project ready to send out and give you an insight into what agents are looking for in their inboxes.

Over my 11 years in publishing, I have a developed a particular love for getting stuck into a first draft and helping shape a story in its infancy – I love nothing more than throwing ideas back and forth and figuring out the shape a story needs to take to give it the best commercial shot at success.

I love discussing pace, themes, dialogue and voice with a particular focus on plot and ensuring that there’s a clear hook to get attention from an agent. editor and eventual reader. Editing is all about bringing out the best in the author, and making sure their vision is protected whilst also pushing them forward and ensuring they are improving their craft with each and every step.
