What is an Elevator Pitch?

Imagine you’re in an elevator (or a lift) with your dream agent. You have only until the lift reaches their floor to sell your novel.

Herein is the idea of an elevator pitch: sell your novel in a concise, yet exciting way.

Elevator pitches will help you throughout your writing career: now’s the time to write the perfect one! We have chosen a 30-word limit to keep those pitches concise and challenge you to sum up your novel with limited words.

The Details

Enter a 30-word (or fewer) elevator pitch using the form below. Please double check your wordcount length – any pitches exceeding 30 words will be disqualified. Don’t feel like you have to use the full 30 words – with pitches, snappy is often best!

The deadline for entry is 09:00am (UK time) on 17th October. Late entries will not be considered.

Finalists will be contacted by October 21st; the live event will take place on October 28th. We’ll be joined by guest judges Laura Williams and Debi Alper.

Make sure to register here.

The Rules

  • All Jericho Writers members can enter Pitch Perfect 2022.
  • All entries will be read by two reader judges and given a mark of ‘no’; ‘maybe’; ‘yes’; or a ‘Golden Yes’. The shortlist will be made from the entries with the highest overall mark across both readers.
  • We encourage everyone to apply for Pitch Perfect, no matter your background or where you are in the world. However, authors who already have an agent and/or a book deal should not enter. This is an opportunity for unrepresented and unpublished authors to get a step ahead on their journey. Should you gain representation or a book deal after entering, please contact us ASAP at info@jerichowriters.com to withdraw your entry
  • If you have any access needs or requirements, please do get in touch with our team at info@jerichowriters.com who will be happy to help.
