About Rowan

Rowan Coleman is the Sunday Times bestselling and award-winning author of sixteen epic romance novels including ‘The Memory Book’, which was a Richard and Judy pick, ‘The Summer of Impossible Things’, a Zoe Ball Book Club pick, and ‘The Girl at the Window’.

Her latest novel ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ is out now. Rowan also writes speculative romantic comedy under the name Stella Hayward. ’The Good Boy’ is out now and is in development for cinema. ’My Brilliant AI Boyfriend’ was published in May 2026.

Rowan is a Royal Literary Fund Fellow, and has previously taught for Faber Academy, Curtis Brown Creative and Guardian Masterclasses. A screenwriter since 2020, Rowan currently has two projects under option, and her historical crime series ‘The Bronte Mysteries’ (‘The Vanished Bride’, ‘The Diabolical Bones’, ‘The Red Monarch’ and ‘A Gift of Poison’) is in development for TV.

With more than two decades’ experience of writing romantic fiction, Rowan has insight on trends, tropes and what makes a novel stand out from the crowd. Several of her clients have gone on to secure literary agents and publishing contracts.

Why Rowan loves mentoring

I have worked with emerging authors for as long as I’ve been a published writer. What makes working with new authors really special for me is seeing their creativity and craft bloom and watching them gain self-assurance and confidence as their ideas become book-shaped.

When I work with a writer, I create a safe, confidential, and nurturing relationship, where I can help the writer acquire all the writers’ tools I have developed over two decades and make their ideas really shine. We will look at their work in progress in sections – or as a whole – and identify any areas that may need strengthening or developing, like plot, pace, characterisation, or emotional arcs. We will work towards a draft that is ready to go to agents and publishers or be independently published. I aim for the experience to be inspiring, useful, creative, and, above all, joyful!

Why we love Rowan

At Jericho Writers, we’re a team of authors, just like you. Four of us are published by the Big 5, while others are deep in the writing process, honing our craft alongside the writers we support. We work with expert book coaches and carefully chosen mentors, selected for their ability to guide writers through every stage of their journey. It’s this approach that has helped countless authors launch their careers, sign with top literary agents, and even become Sunday Times Bestsellers.

As the tutor on our Writing Romance Novels Course, Rowan is amongst our most trusted experts on all things romantic fiction, as well as specialising in a range of commercial genres. With a warm, engaging, and fun approach, Rowan can support you from planning your plot beats all the way up to preparing for publication.
