The joy of new
Find your community this month
Writing these newsletters is the highlight of my week, so this is a bittersweet one for me as it will be my last! In this newsletter, we look forward to a month of events focused on community and I give my two cents on what I’ve learned during five years at Jericho Writers, including finding joy in the new.

SUCCESS STORY: Karen Menuhin’s self-published #1 spot
When Karen Menuhin ventured into self-publishing with her debut, she wasn’t sure what to expect. She used Jericho Writers resources early on in the process and has since published seven books in The Heathcliff Lennox series as eBooks, paperback and audio, and made it to #1 on Amazon in the USA.
The Joy of New
I’ve been wracking my brains all week, trying to think up the perfect words to say thank you for over five wonderful years at Jericho Writers. Jericho Writers members really are the very best people in the world and it’s been such a privilege to read your work and play a small part in your writing careers.
Rather than write a long soppy message though, I thought I’d instead write about that feeling you get when you stand on the precipice of something new. There’s something both terrifying and exciting about a blank page. When an idea is just an idea, it’s easier to think of it as something impossibly brilliant – uncomplicated by the realities of having to actually do it. And it’s tempting to keep it in that state. If you don’t start, then you can’t fail, right?
Well, not exactly. In my experience of the writing world, the only way to succeed is to keep failing. That may sound exhausting, but it is in fact a superpower we all share. When failure is the only way to success – it’s impossible to fail. We can throw ourselves blindly into everything and bounce until we fly.
So, if you’re teetering on the edge of something new, don’t delay starting. Jump with both feet (and try to keep your eyes open).
Thank you again for all being so brilliant. I hope to see some of you ‘in person’ at the member ZOOM on Thursday. For everyone else, I wish you all the best of luck with your writing. I just know you’re going to soar.
All my very best,
Sarah J
N.B: Don’t worry, this absolutely isn’t the end of our Tuesday newsletters! Instead of hearing from Sarah, over the next few weeks you’ll hear from a number of the Jericho Writers team plus some very special guests – so do stick with us! – Esther
