Funding opportunities for writers

If money is feeling a little tight this year, this newsletter contains some exciting opportunities from all over the world to further your writing. We also have three(!) events happening this week and a sneak preview of tutored courses in 2022.

TUTORED COURSES: Writing for Children with Eleanor Hawken (10% discount for members)

We still have spaces on our short courses starting in February 2022. They’re perfect for beginners and a great way to learn within a close-knit group of writers online. There are some really exciting financial support schemes and opportunities available right now. Here are some for your list!

Fully-Funded place on the Self-Edit Your Novel Tutored Course

Open to under-represented writers, this bursary is for one fully-funded place on Debi Alper and Emma Darwin’s acclaimed Self-Edit Your Novel Course.

Previous recipients of this bursary have gone on to land huge publishing deals and places on this course have sold out through 2023.

Cove Park funded residencies for artists

Would you like to write your novel alongside other artists overlooking Loch Long in Scotland next year?

Applications are now open to apply for residencies including accommodation and a fee of £450 per week. You can apply from anywhere in the world, and a small travel bursary is also available.

Closing date: 20 December. Do read the full terms and conditions.

Subsidized fees at Moniack Mhor

Another one in Scotland that’s on my list – Moniack Mhor offer bursaries that help subsidize course fees at their beautiful writing retreat in the Scottish Highlands.

This one is for writers on a low income and doesn’t include any travel.

Closing dates are rolling. You can find the form to apply here.

Good luck!

Plus, don’t miss:

Bursary opportunities from Jericho Writers in the new year

Keep an eye out in January for some exciting new opportunities from us. We’re always looking for ways to help deserving voices get heard, so make sure you’re always keeping an eye on our bursaries page and on social media for more information.

One-to-one sessions (10% discount available)

We still have slots left to chat to top literary agents from the UK and US. Each agent or book doctor will read your work in advance of this fifteen-minute call and is a great way to beat the slushpile. You can even choose your preferred agent and date/time.

Developmental editing (10% discount available)

If you want all the rigour offered by a Big-Five publishing house, but without the contracts and confusion, we’ve got you covered. A developmental edit offers you in-text comments throughout your manuscript offering in-depth feedback on your work, and a sixty-minute conversation with your editor to get that manuscript in perfect shape before you start submitting.
