17 writing prompts to try this week
- First line: “The first time it happened, I was sitting under the table.”
- A couple are on their honeymoon in a quiet seaside town. Write about what happens when they begin to have the same nightmares every night.
- Write a character looking in the mirror in first, second and third person.
- Describe something that has been left out in the rain.
- Title: Singing Bones.
- Find the last text you sent. Include this in a story.
- Character: An 80-year-old man who wishes he could fly.
- You’re walking alone when you find an injured animal. What happens next?
- Find the last book you read. Use the last line as the first line of your next story.
- Setting: An abandoned funfair.
- You accidentally send an email to the wrong person. What happens next?
- Theme: The truth will set you free.
- Twist expectations and write a happy scene in a sinister place, and a sinister scene in a traditional happy place.
- Write mystery where the main suspect isn’t human.
- A compulsive liar meets someone who vows only to tell the truth. Write their first conversation.
- Find the last song you listened to. Use that title as the title to your next story.
- Write a story with the last line: “He disappeared with the snow”.
