How to find time to write
Being creative in strange times
We’re living history right now. But the stresses that go alongside that don’t always make us feel very creative. This newsletter looks at how to carve out time to be creative and escape into stories – if even just for a little while each day.

Content corner: How to stay creative during Lockdown
It almost feels like we are living in a poorly-plotted speculative fiction novel right now. And chatting to other writers – we all seem to be feeling the same lack of creativity and drive to write, whilst we’re busy being protagonists in our own dystopian tales.
But – on the other hand – some of us might well find ourselves with more dedicated time. I’m currently on Lockdown with the rest of the UK, which means I should technically be able to dedicate the time I used to spend outside – on writing.
So – what can we do to make use of this time? And how can be keep ourselves creative when we’re all doing what we can to save the world?
My own tips are to give yourself a schedule. 9am-11am might now be “writing time”. Travel to your writing space (even if that’s balanced on the washing machine) and do what you can to make that space yours. Work with the other people in your house to keep that time sacred. Maybe light a candle. Pop some flowers in jar. Make it a positive space. Then – turn off your phone. Don’t check the news. Let yourself disappear into another story – just for a little while.
What are you doing to stay creative in the middle of all this? Sign up to the Townhouse and share anything that’s helping you at all, here. We’re all in this together!
