Any stone-age buddies?
Hello there. Is anyone else writing historical fiction for 14+ age group. Does anyone else love reading Rosemary Sutcliff’s novels for this age group? I’m writing about mesolithic twins on the Island of Bute in Scotland. If anyone is interested I’d love to swap chapters.
I used to read Rosemary Sutcliffe voraciously as a teenager. She sadly seems to have gone out of style now, which is a pity. Before Covid I used to borrow books from the library and never saw her books on the shelves.
I read all of Rosemary Sutcliff’s books when in my teens. I particularly loved Blood And Sand, and her Eagle of the Ninth series. I think it is why I studied ancient history and archaeology, and why I now write Historical Fiction set in the ancient Roman period, although my books are for adults.
Hi Kate. Blood and Sand? Good heavens, one I haven’t read! I do think she was at her best with the Romans. Good luck with yours.
Thanks, Charlotte. Hope you can find a copy and read it.
I’ve finished writing a book set in the 18th Century during the golden age of piracy. It’s written from the point of view of a ship’s cat sailing with the notorious pirate, Captain Bartholomew (Black Bart) Roberts.
I’ve never read Rosemary Sutcliff, but I’d be happy to swap chapters and give/receive some feedback.
Hi Kevin
That sounds fun. I suppose you know about Captain Cook’s Goat and Flinders’ cat Trim? I’m happy to read a chapter. But what happens now? do we swap emails?
Hi Charlotte,
Apologies, but until yesterday I hadn’t logged in to Jericho Writers since October last year! I think, because we don’t receive notifications unless we are signed in, I’d forgotten to check. And, like yourself no doubt, most of my time is spent writing (not accessing social media).
My email address is krhallwriter@gmail.com if you’re still willing to swap chapters.
