  • Where is everyone located?

I did something like this in another group I’m in and thought it would be a great & easy way for people to find others that are near them. We can create our own google map for Jericho Writers. The great thing is that you can put a pin near your location so no privacy information given. I’ve put in my first name as that’s what I go by in the webinars & in Townhouse, but it’s up to you which name you want to put in. I also added JW and SFoW after my name as I’m both a Jericho Writers member and a Summer Festival of Writing attendee.

    How to access:

Click on the hyperlink above (google map for Jericho Writers) or here

Find your location by zooming in on the map.

Click on the pin (add marker)

Click on the map where you want the marker to be located.

Put in the name that you’d like to be identified by and/or JW and SFoW

If you’d like then update your marker by selecting the style (paint bucket) and you can change the colour and the symbol if you like.

Please feel free to delete if this isn’t allowed JW. I just thought that this could be a fun & easy way of sharing where we’re located (& who is furthest away) or near you…

Let me know what you think.

😂 Haha, just took a close-up peek, Jon. Had to laugh; at least I hope you’re kidding, poor kitties!

      Hi Blakeney,

      It’s here!

      image_transcoder.php?o=bx_froala_image&h=462&dpx=2&t=1622826496

Just click on it and the cursor will turn into cross-hairs. Then click on the map wherever your location is. It’ll ask you to give a name to the location… most of have just put our name(s). That’s it!

There is, of course, a step before the one Jon pointed to. You may get a slightly different view first, whereby you need to sign in, then hit the big Edit button at the top of the bar on the left.

Oh I didn’t know that! Thanks for chipping in as I hadn’t included that in my instructions.

Thanks Rick. Good call. Though I didn’t have to do that… maybe because I was already logged into my Google account.

Hi Rebecca, I know where you are now 🙂 my friends who I visit in winksley moved from birstwith some years ago and we moved them up there with their horses and of course drove through Shaw Mills 🙂 I knew I remembered that name from somewhere!

Hey I’m not sure which of you may have put the driving directions in another layer… Did you want to put a pin in the main layer that we’re working in? I don’t want to delete anyone…

Wasn’t me. Not sure who did that. Directions from me to point 29?

Hi there, I’m based in North London. I love the sound of the places you mention Teresa McDonell – Winksley and Birstwith!! Wonderful names.

Hi Philippa nice to hear from you – yes, I love driving around and seeing the names as they are all wonderful! There’s Galphay, Kirby Malzeard and Risplith not to mention Fellbeck and Brimham Rocks. And that’s just one area of Yorkshire, Nidderdale to be precise. I live in Wharfedale. Thanks for reminding me of how great these names are 🙂

Whereabouts do you live in North London? I lived in Bounds Green for a short while but mostly south, Battersea Square and Borough just behind Tate Modern. London has some cracking names too. Pimlico always makes me think of a packet of sweets for some reason!

You’re forgetting Blubberhouses, Killinghall, Kettlesing and Wetwang in other parts of Yorkshire. We have the best place names.

I worked in a pub in Killinghall. It always sounds an ominous place. Around me we also have Bedlam and Cut Throat Lane. But yes there are many lovely places. Grassington, Bishop Thornton, Ripley, Markington, Burnt Yates, Glasshouses, Pateley Bridge, Fountains Abby and Brimham Rocks, Crambe, Malton, Thornton-le-Dale, Hutton-le-Hole, Osmotherley, Skipton…it goes on and on. 🙂

Awesome. I know Birstwith well, has a lovely pub. I used to ride a friend’s horses nr there. It’s a beautiful area. 🙂

Great initiative. My icon is a seagull. Google call it an eagle. It rhymes, but it’s wrong.

Brigitte, a brilliant idea. Thanks so much. I actually managed to add my location, and it was even SIMPLE. I may not hate technology as much as Jane, but I intensely dislike digital and am therefore bad at it, and therefore, dislike it…

I’ve taken the liberty of removing the ‘rogue’, Bella! 🙂 Unless, of course, ‘Point 18’ was your non de plume!

…and some kind soul has removed Point 17 from my location. I meant to do it myself but had already logged off google when I noticed and was running late. Had to go out and be back before 9pm curfew here. In a couple of days it’ll be moved to 11pm. Happy days are coming soon… 😈

I’ve done it! It seems that I am the furthest west. As we have sunshine I’ve coloured myself yellow.
