  • Is there a good time of year to query?

I’m just starting my journey into querying my first novel and have found that lots of the smaller agencies are currently closed for submissions until next Spring because they are so overwhelmed. Is it better to query in the first half of the year, rather than the second? Does it make difference on response times? Just wondering really.

    Nicola

I just noticed that you posted almost the same question I was about to post.

I’ve just got a more or less ready to query draft together and hope to give it the best chance.

Looking forward to hearing some thoughts on this.

    Good luck with yours

Hi Nicola, I’ve heard from a fellow JW member that now is a good time to query. I saw that some agents changed their status to accepting queries recently (but many also changed it to closed). I’ve been sending my queries out over the past few weeks – as long my manuscript is ready and they are open I think it’s a good shot. Hopefully my submission is top of the pile for 2024…

All the best for your queries, fingers crossed!

Thanks Katrin. That is good to know. It does all feel quite unknown and mysterious. Finger crossed for you (and us all).
