So, how did we all get on today?

As requested, here’s the link to our amazing event last night with Melissa Addey: https://jerichowriters.com/masterclasses/plotting-your-book-with-melissa-addey-build-your-book-month-2023/

We had such great feedback for this today, including this lovely comment: “one of the best events I’ve ever seen”

It really was – the team have done such a stellar job with Build Your Book month and looking ahead, the Festival of Writing is a calendar highlight.

No need for Google! 28th and 29th of October – our Full Weekend and Saturday day tickets are now sold out, but we have space left on the Sunday.

28th and 29th October (or that’s what’s in my diary!)

Thank you both. I’ll have to play it by ear, but there is a possibility I might be able to make the Sunday! πŸ™‚

Excellent to hear! If you do, that ticket also allows you access to our Friday Night Live (on a Saturday) competition finale. Entries are now sadly closed, but you can still come along and choose your winner. We decide from a ‘clap-o-meter’ so it is entirely down to you.

When the festival was at York, the only one I missed was the last one, due to Covid. It’s brilliant!

I went to one when it was in York a few years ago. 2018 I think. I really enjoyed it! I did a reading for Friday Night Live. That was a bit terrifying. But in a weird, fun way.

What did you read? I have vague memories of something along the lines of Jasyn. I read in 2019 – scary!

I read the opening from my THE MUSIC OF LIFE – BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE INSTRUMENTS OF DEATH.* The concept is that at the moment of death we don’t see our life flash before our eyes, but we hear it. The story is about a violinist in death’s orchestra who discovers she’s playing the death notes of her wife, and her struggle to stand up to the powers that be to find a way to save her family.

*Yes I do have exceptionally long titles, always! πŸ™‚

Ah! No, the Greek-based one was a year or two earlier, and for children. And I do remember the violinist, but not the details. My ears pick up ‘violinist’ because my MC is a violinist – as was I, but I never kept up the practice.

I found a way to wriggle out. I’d forgotten the timeline. My child in the first two books (all the other MCs are adults) has become a teenager. And Alice, who always had plenty to say, now says it with attitude!

In the spirit of ‘show and tell’ – this is what I was working on in the writing room today. It’s a poster for a book fair I’ll be attending. It’s very much A WORK IN PROGRESS. Lots of missing bits and blocking in place of shading. And missing text.

I’m planning on making the text at the bottom be a bit more interesting too, more like a movie poster. πŸ™‚ (And yes, I should have been WRITING in there writing room… oops!)

I should stress that I am not the artist. I am merely the person who thought ahead to ask the artist to place all the book cover elements on separate layers so I can rearrange them on promotional material to my heart’s desire! πŸ™‚ Today it’s faux-movie poster! πŸ˜€

I’ve loved working with the artist for mine. She really got to know the book before painting, and showed me the mock-ups. She’s done covers for all three books, so she’s well ahead of me!

Oh that’s brilliant! Really great that she got to know your books, and that you have the trio of striking covers that fit with each other. πŸ™‚ I’ll bet you’re eager to show off the covers! Good incentive to finish the books πŸ˜€
