Monica attended Montclair State University where she got a B.A. in English, and New York University where she received an M.A. in Publishing: Digital & Print Media. She undertook internships at MTV and New Jersey Business Magazine while studying. She originally considered a career as an editor before a university lecturer recommended an internship at Joelle Delbourgo Associates during downtime from her studies. She moved to Liza Dawson Associates in 2010, first as an assistant then as an agent, and worked there for many years. She briefly moved to Bradford Literary Agency in 2015, before returning to Liza Dawson Associates.
