Evan held senior editorial roles with companies including Houghton Mifflin, Ariel Books, New American Library, and Everest House & Dodd, Mead, where he worked with bestselling, awarding winning authors. Evan then spent three years as a literary agent with Sterling Lord Agency before branching out on his own. He established The Evan Marshall Agency in 1987. Evan describes his decision to make the career change from editor to a literary agent as a way to be more involved in the creative process. Rather than receiving the near-finished product, he is able to contribute and support his authors from the very beginning of their careers.<\/p>\n
