Josh studied at the University of Pennsylvania and afterward began his publishing career with Harcourt. He then decided to get his MBA from Columbia Business School. Following this, he went into business with his father as owner first of the Watertown Indians and then the Staten Island Yankees, both minor league baseball teams. Josh did this for over ten years before returning to the book world. From 2006 to 2009, he worked as an agent at Writers House building a list that covered all age ranges. He then joined Russell & Volkening and it was there that he met Carrie Hannigan and Jesseca Salky, with whom he would found the HSG Agency (now HG Literary) in 2011.
