Jenny Brown established a literary agency in 2002 and it has grown to become Scotland’s leading agency. She also works as a freelance consultant, and has completed a major scoping study on the Role of Agents in Creative Industries in Scotland for Scottish Enterprise, a Review of Awards for Scottish Arts Council, a Review of Writing Development in the Highlands and Islands for HI-Arts and a Report into the Short Story in the UK for Arts Council England. With Catherine Lockerbie she wrote a five year plan for Durham Book Festival in 2010. She was previously Head of Literature at Scottish Arts Council (1996-2002), National Co-ordinator Readiscovery campaign (1994-1996), Presenter of Scottish Television’s book programmes (1989-1995), and the first Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival (1983-1991), of which she is now a Board member. She was one of the four creators and founders of Edinburgh as first UNESCO City of Literature. She has also been a Commissioner for the Press Complaints Commission (1993-97), and a Director of Scottish Television’s Regional Board. She has been a committee member of the Association of Authors’ Agents, and was first Chair of the Association of Scottish Literary Agents. She was Chair of Bloody Scotland, the Scottish international crime writing festival in September 2012.
