After graduating from Yale University, Rica spent five years working in professional kitchens before moving into the publishing industry. She began her literary career in 2001 as a Publishing Associate at Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. She then spent over a decade (from 2005 to 2017) as Vice President and Executive Editor at Clarkson Potter, an imprint of Penguin Random House, where she specialized in acquiring and editing illustrated cookbooks and narrative non-fiction.
