Dana graduated first from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1989 with a BA in Comparative Literature and then from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1993 with her JD in Law. She worked for 14 years from 1994 to 2008 as General Counsel for Moviola and its affiliates, Paskal Lighting and Magnasync Corporation, until she became Partner at The General Counsel LLC in 2009. Dana founded Dana Newman Literary in 2010, where she currently works.<\/p>\n
In addition to her work as a literary agent, Dana has worked as Of Counsel at Raines Feldman LLP since 2012, where she focuses on business and legal advising, negotiating and drafting contracts, intellectual property (copyrights and trademarks), licensing and publishing law. She has extensive experience with publishing and literary agency agreements and also does pre-publication legal reviews of manuscripts.<\/p>\n
Dana wrote the novel ‘Copyright Grants: as Powerful as Kryptonite?’, which was published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal. She also co-authored the chapter on Technology and Intellectual Property Rights in the book ‘Emerging Companies Guide: A Resource for Professionals and Entrepreneurs, Second Edition (American Bar Association 2011)’.<\/p>\n
Dana regularly attends writers’ conferences and speaks frequently on legal issues for authors, such as publishing contracts, collaboration agreements, and copyright. She works as a co-agent with Phyllis Parsons of The Parsons Company, Inc. in connection with speakers and film\/TV rights.<\/p>\n
