Callen Martin became a literary agent at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency in January 2026 after several years at Bell Lomax Moreton, where he began as an assistant, later handled a senior agent’s list during maternity cover, and ultimately built his own list of Children’s, YA, and New Adult authors. Having grown up in foster care, he went on to make history as the first care-experienced person in East Sussex to pursue postgraduate study, completing an MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University in 2019. His route into publishing began through internships and placements at Chicken House, Walker Books, and Penguin Michael Joseph, followed by freelance work as a submission reader, sensitivity reader, manuscript assessor, and writing competition judge. In 2026, he was also appointed the agent judge for the Times \/ Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition—an opportunity that aligns with his dedication to uplifting young readers and championing bold, emotionally engaging storytelling.<\/p>\n
