After graduating from Northwestern University in 1984 with a BA in Theater, Doug worked briefly in 1985 as an Editorial Assistant at the Ladies’ Home Journal, where he met client Jeff Rovin, and as a Temp at the literary agency Connie Clausen & Associates before he officially began his publishing career in 1986 as a Temp for the renowned Michael Korda at Simon & Schuster, later moving around to work for its various departments in foreign rights, international sales, and Harlequin Romances.<\/p>\n
He became Assistant to Bill Grose (the Editorial Director) at Pocket Books in 1987 and was promoted to Associate Editor in 1990, overseeing the western fiction and military non-fiction mass-market paperback lines. He also worked on golf books in association with the Golf Digest magazine and edited the work of Greg Dinallo and Emmy Award-winning reporter Armen Keteyian.<\/p>\n
In 1995, Doug joined Ballantine Books as an Editor under Joelle Delbourgo and Clare Ferraro where he published his first NY Times bestsellers, by Jeff Shaara, as well as golf books by the legendary Sam Snead and PGA champion Steve Elkington.<\/p>\n
He moved to the Penguin imprint New American Library in 1998 as a Senior Editor under Carolyn Nichols and Louise Burke. There he published or repackaged further bestsellers by John Jakes, the Jakes backlist, and Ernest Shackleton, among others, and worked with writers like M.G. Sheftall, Bob Morgan, and Pulitzer Prize winner Ron Powers.<\/p>\n
Doug joined the HarperCollins imprint ReganBooks in 2005, publishing NY Times bestsellers by Kevin Weeks, Phyllis Karas, and Ray Negron and notably working with Alex Roy and Martin Luther King Jr.’s lawyer, Clarence B. Jones.<\/p>\n
