Cynthia graduated from Barnard College in 1980 with a BA in English Language and Literature. She began her career in publishing as a book scout for foreign language publishers at Maria B. Campbell Associates, moving on to become Vice President at the major literary agency Janklow & Nesbit Associates in 1985. She worked at Janklow & Nesbit for twelve years before leaving to establish her own agency, Cynthia Cannell Literary Agency, in 1998. She has enjoyed considerable success since, especially regarding the sale of film rights for the works of Walter Kirn.<\/p>\n

Cynthia has received editorial and subsidiary rights training at Simon & Schuster and as an Associate Editor at Joni Evans’ imprint, The Linden Press. She is a member of the Authors’ Guild and the Women’s Media Group and during her time as a board member of the AAR, she and another member initiated a paid diversity internship program in partnership with CCNY.<\/p>\n
