A graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio, Gail has a degree in Psychobiology and spent time studying Italian in Venice and Perugia. Gail’s career began with G.P. Putnam’s Sons in 1975 at an entry-level position as an Editorial Assistant in the magazine department, working closely with authors to sell their short stories to The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly.<\/p>\n
She began agenting with the Reynolds Agency, now known as John Hawkins & Associates, in 1977; Gail spent six years with the agency before joining the Brandt & Hochman Literary Agents (then called Brandt & Brandt Literary Agents) in 1983. Gail was promoted to partner by the early 1990s and became President in 2001; she continues to work as Literary Agent, representing her impressive client list.<\/p>\n
She has taught a class in the role of the literary agent at NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies and she is active in numerous charities and foundations which support the needs of women and children in NY city and the writing community. Earlier in her life, she attended summer camps where she worked with autistic children.<\/p>\n
