Alexandra Gutteridge - Editor
Alex has had 12 children’s books published and has worked with a variety of editors and major publishing houses.
Alex has written young fiction, middle grade and YA plus picture books for an English reading scheme. Her YA novel, ‘Last Chance Angel’ was short-listed for eight awards including the Romantic Novel of the Year Award and ‘No Going Back’ was commended at the Sheffield Book Awards and won the Northamptonshire Children’s Choice Book Award. She has also written young fiction, middle grade, books for reluctant readers and picture book texts for an English reading scheme. Her young fiction was issued on audiotape and ‘Oven Chips For Tea’, her middle grade novel, was broadcast on BBC radio.
Many of Alex’s books have been plucked from the slush pile so she knows all about the challenges of writing without any guarantee of work being accepted. She aims to encourage everyone to follow their writing dream whether that is to be self-published or traditionally published.

WHAT ALEXANDRA SAYS ABOUT EDITING
Most stories are born in fleeting, often totally unexpected moments; an overheard conversation in the supermarket, a split-second view from a train, a flash of a thought in the deep of the night. Some stories, the rare ones, arrive fully formed, a perfectly wrapped parcel to be easily opened and enjoyed. Most require patience and persistence, endless cups of tea, long walks and if you are lucky discussions with writer friends. Writing for children has its own special rewards and the possibility that your book could be the one to encourage or renew a love of reading in a child is a rare and special privilege. I believe that the best books flow through us if we allow them the space. But we also need to be aware of the importance of structure, pace, plot and character. Producing a good book demands hard work and my aim is to offer you the tools for your writing to reach its highest potential.
